Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI)
The Sexual Violence Research Initiative is one of the largest global networks for advancing research on violence against women, violence against children, and other forms of violence driven by gender inequality. Founded in 2003, the SVRI brings together a diverse group of actors aiming to achieve a world free of violence against women and violence against children through improved practices and prevention programmes informed by evidence, with a focus on low and middle-income countries. We do this through building evidence, strengthening research capacity, promoting partnerships and influencing change.
The SVRI Forum is the SVRIs flagship event, and the world’s largest abstract driven conference on violence against women and violence against children and other forms of violence driven by gender inequality in low- and middle-income countries.

Southeast Asia Gender-Based Violence Prevention Platform
The Platform is an Australian Government investment that aims to strengthen locally led efforts to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) through evidence-based advocacy, dialogue, policy and programming in Southeast Asia.
It brings together diverse stakeholders across the region to collaborate, share, work together to exchange capacity, evidence and action to prevent GBV in all its forms.
The Platform will do this through four main strategies:
- Facilitate – strengthen prevention expertise and capacity at the organisational, national and regional levels to translate evidence into action within Southeast Asia
- Demonstrate – invest in building and sharing Southeast Asian regional specific evidence on effective GBV prevention approaches
- Advocate – support Southeast Asian regional dialogues and expand regional and bilateral collaboration on effective GBV primary prevention
- Incubate – develop, mentor and support a Southeast Asian regional GBV prevention Secretariat to deliver the Platform.

UN Women and UNFPA under the UN Joint Programme on GBV Prevention in Southeast Asia
The Joint Programme on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention in Southeast Asia is a five-year initiative (2024–2029) led by UN Women and UNFPA, with funding from the Australian Government. The programme is designed to strengthen regional collaboration, expand evidence-based strategies, and build capacities to prevent GBV across Southeast Asia.
At the heart of the initiative is the establishment of the Southeast Asia Gender-Based Violence Prevention Platform.
Through research, advocacy, and capacity-building, the programme will:
- Support the design and implementation of evidence-based solutions to tackle the root causes of GBV, including harmful gender norms and systemic inequalities.
- Mobilise regional expertise and networks to ensure prevention efforts are both locally driven and globally informed.
- Empower women, girls, and other marginalised groups to play a central role in shaping safer and more equitable societies.
Through regional dialogues, technical support, and cross-sector collaboration, the programme will create an enabling environment for long-term prevention.
